Last September, the Fall Prospect Series debuted to unprecedented success. The Series was billed as a well-organized series of round-robin weekends show-casing some of Ohio's top high-school-aged travel teams on Stark County's best high school fields. It did not disappoint. Teams from Stark County were joined by teams from North, Central and Eastern Ohio as well as Canada. In all, 67 games were played in front of local baseball fans, supportive parents and college scouts. This last point is important. Since it is difficult for colleges to see players during their high school season, summer and fall baseball are important to the recruitment process. The 2016 FPS attracted scouts from Ohio St., Youngstown St., Ohio University, Kent St., Malone University, Walsh University, The University of Mt. Union and the College of Wooster; several players received verbal offers as a result. Last years participating programs included Spikes Baseball (Canton, OH), Ohio Elite (Independence, OH), Triple Crown Royals (Columbus, OH), the Lake Erie Warhawks (Oberlin, OH), Mashfactory Elite (Green, OH), Stark Co. Terriers (Canton, OH), the Ohio Glaciers (Struthers, OH), the Mid-Ohio Mariners (Mansfield, OH), the Diamond Boys (Hudson, OH), the Ontario Athletics and Team Ontario (Toronto, ON).
Team and prospect registration is expected to open mid-July. A prospect camp featuring instruction from college coaches is planned as well.
